OMEGA FIN WRITE-UP (Abridged ScubaBoard Posting)

By Mike Pedersen, Dive Right in Scuba, Plainfield, IL

Alright...I'm sure some people have been waiting for this write-up. Just before the Our World Underwater Show this past weekend, I mean minutes before my plane left, I met with Steve from Omega who gave me a pair of fins to demo on the trip I was leading to the Mall of America to shark dive (which was really cool).

To be honest, when I first saw the fins at DEMA, I wasn't sure what to think of them and if they would even perform. I was dead wrong! They were actually very functional, and I was extremely surprised at the way they performed in the water.

So, we made it to the aquarium and everyone suited up. I put on my gear, and oddly enough, put on my fins as well. Everyone was baffled. They have never seen anything like it, but they love it. I walked about 30 yards to the spot were we were going to get in the water with my fins already on and they walk great! While standing in line waiting to get in the water, everyone else had to get down, put their fins on, stand back up, and "giant stride" into the water. Personally, I just jumped right in--no wait, no fuss. I was ready to go.

When I hit the water it was a bit strange trying to move around. Oh yea--I had to snap the fins into place. So, with a couple of normal kicks (gets easier with practice) I could hear the click and all of a sudden I was being propelled forward with really great power. This is what amazed me. I am used to an old set of Dacor Turboflex fins, which are extremely stiff, and I thought these fins would not be a good fit for my style. I was wrong again. They were very comfortable to kick, powerful enough for my kicking style, and functional in and out of the water. What an awesome fin! When my dive was over, I clicked on the lock to flip the fins up and walked right out. I walked over to the next dive spot to take off my gear. My fins came off last.

After my dive, I was worried that these fins may be too stiff for some other people. One of the aquarium instructors had a pair of Mares Volos he dives (an extremely flexible fin). He tried the Omega and LOVED IT!!! At this point, it was obvious to me that the Amphibian is going to be good for almost everyone. I think you guys are going to be amazed with this fin!
